Insane Clown Posse at the Emerald Theatre 6-23-12

Examiner - June 26, 2012

Detroit's favorite clowns took to the stage on Saturday night for their first ever show at the Emerald Theatre, which was draped in plastic everywhere in anticipation of the Faygo splattering that was to follow.

Insane Clown Posse decided to play a one-off show in Mount Clemens combining with Potluck's Underground Rebels Tour, which also features performances by The DRP, DGAF and Kung Fu Vampire.

ICP are gearing up for the release of their latest album The Mighty Death Pop! on August 14.

The album is dropping in the midst of the band's annual music festival The Gathering of the Juggalos.

This year's 13th annual Gathering of the Juggalos will once again be taking place in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois from August 8th thru the 12th.

News of the band's show in Mount Clemens spread quickly and on Saturday Juggalos from all over the country packed into the Emerald Theatre to witness a rare hometown show.

The show was kicked off by The DRP and DGAF and followed by a fiery set from Kung Fu Vampire.

Potluck has been out headlining on the Underground Rebels Tour but had to shorten their set and drop their video background when ICP got added to the show but they were more than happy to make the accommodations to play with them for the first time.

Their set was shortened but they still managed to throw out a energetic set including songs like "Say What Ya Wanna Say" and their song with Twiztid, "Funeral", which appealed to the Juggalo crowd.

In between sets the crowd began to get restless but erupted in cheers when the Faygo began to be rolled out, signaling that ICP would be taking the stage soon.

Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope took to the stage behind their signature carnival music along with their deejay for the evening, long-time producer Mike E. Clark.

They kicked things off with a song from their last album, the thumping "In Yo Face", and just kept things moving from there..

Those hoping to hear some new music were to be disappointed as the band pretty much stuck to the set list that they've been performing for the last couple of years but in spite of that, there was still a lot of fun to go around.

Classics like "Dead Body Man", "Chicken Huntin'", "Tilt-A-Whirl", and "Let's Go All the Way" were there alongside newer material like "Homies", "Murder Rap" and "Zombie Slide".

The show itself was kind of a throwback to the early shows the band used to play when they started out with no barricades and a much smaller area to punt their Faygo bottles in.

Fans rushed the stage throughout and security was pretty lax allowing them to toss some pop before pushing them back into the crowd.

ICP wrapped things up with "Pass Me By" and "Bang! Pow! Boom!" which found the fans rushing the stage in a way that hasn't been seen since '94's Hallowicked, which actually caused the show's early end.

Fortunately, this time out things stayed calm with everyone having a great time as the band finished things on a high note.
