Occupation: Producer, Underground Rapper

Facebook: Str8jaket810

Producer at Psychopathic Records: 2016 - 2020

Born and raised in Flint Michigan, Str8jaket started his rap career in 1999 with a local friend Mr.5 O’Clock in his basement. With a more real life approach and diverse lyrics he was locally recognized by other upcoming talent. Not much progress was made until later that year when Str8jaket hooked up with long time friend Worm and joined the group D.O.L. who already had a small local fan base on Flint’s South and Eastside. Str8jaket began recording at the Wormhole Studio in early 2000. Worm and Str8 instantly clicked, at the time Craze, the other member of D.O.L., was in jail so the two worked on their first e.p. together called “Drained of Life”. The six track e.p. did was not released until D.O.L.’s first show at the Underground Billiards in Fenton Michigan in 2002. The group was asked to come back to the Underground billiards and played a couple more shows there with other acts the Nightmare Killers and Bedlam a local group from Saginaw Michigan.

During the next two years Str8jaket continued recording music with D.O.L. but nothing was ever done with it and the group slowly went downhill. After other band mate Craze was released from jail the group talked about making another album but it never happened. In 2004 Str8jaket and Worm began recording with Luke Avery, a producer on the west side of Flint. Str8 recorded his first solo album “Killers Reality” featuring Worm on numerous tracks. The album was released locally in January of 2005 carried and promoted by friends Al Steel and Doug Earp at a local record store Wyatt Earp Records. The album sold 100 copies.

After that D.O.L. had come to an end and Str8jaket left the group. Later that year he reunited with longtime friend 2DIRTE who was currently in Psychopathic Records “Underground Psychos” contest. After 2DIRTE was cut from the last round the two began working on a Halloween e.p. entitled “”The Field”, which was released in early October 2005, followed by numerous shows to promote the album until their final show three days before Halloween. On New years eve 2005 Str8jaket and 2Dirte joined with YND after his return from serving the military in Iraq at the “Another Year in the Gutta” show at the East of Averill warehouse in Flint. Later on that month the three formed a group called “CLICK CLACK” and began working on their first e.p. entitled “Guttaside”. The Guttaside E.p. was released July 18th 2006, and was a hit locally. Two songs off the e.p. made it to a local radio station 94.3 Strange Radio and did fairly well getting request on a daily basis. Click Clack promoted the CD by doing shows including Wickedstock 2006 opening for PDM and Tech N9ne, doing radio station interviews on 94.3 and putting together a street team to flyer and pass out samplers. The wicked/gangster sound of Click Clack brought the aspect of living in a depressed ghetto and the everyday struggle that Str8jaket and fellow band mates faced in everyday life. The album did very well locally sellin' over a thousand copies.

In 2008 Str8jaket released his first official solo release entitled “Nuclear Sunshine”. The solo album did fairly well and is still to date getting good sales with the favorites “Do It Like A Killa” and “Nuclear Sunshine” the album has become a classic to the local and internet fan base. In 2009 Str8jaket left 101 productions to start his own label Darkhouse Records and signed with Dead N Dirty Productions, an Indie label from the south who had noticed Str8’s talent and fire on the mic. Currently Str8jaket and the Dead N Dirty crew are taking on the world spreading their wicked lyrics to a constant growing fan base. Str8jaket is near the release of his 3rd official studio release entitled “SNAPT” which is said to be his best work yet, but there is no telling what this killa is capable of.

In the Hatchet Herald of November 2016 stood an interview with Str8jaket. He was now been hired as Psychopathic Records in-house engineer.

Below you can read the short interview from J-Webb and Str8jaket.

And now, Juggalos, allow me the pleasure of introducing Psychopathic’s new studio engineer/beat maker/all-around super sound ninja, the one and only STR8JAKET! You may have seen him performing at one of the Gatherings, or performing with Tech N9ne, or maybe you’ve admired his fresh graphic design skills (Little known fact: It was Str8Jaket who designed the fresh ass logos for Gathering 16 and Gathering 17!). His talents come in many forms as this ninja is extremely gifted. Therefore we are psyched as FUCK to welcome this crazy skilled ninja to our squad of Hatchet soldiers and you’re going to fuckin’ lose your shit when you realize just how talented and fresh this ninja actually is. So everyone, please say hello to the one and only Str8jaket!

Welcome to the Hatchet, Str8jaket! Your reputation certainly precedes you. You’ve done production work with Big Hoodoo, ABK, Twiztid, Smokehouse Junkiez, and many other big names in Detroit hip-hop. And you’re also a very accomplished musician in your own right, opening for Tech N9ne, Prozak, Bone Thugs, and, of course, you have played at several Gatherings. How does it feel to now officially be a part of the Hatchet?

It’s amazing, man. A dream come true. It came from out of the blue. Violent J called me up one day and invited me down to the Lotus Pod for an interview and also to see what I could do on the console.

How long we’re you in that interview for?

Oh, a few hours. A lot of talking about the future of Psychopathic, the music industry in general and how it’s changed so much in just the last five years. Getting to sit down with Violent J and get all this knowledge from him firsthand about the past, present, and future of Psychopathic and hip hop in general was just fucking amazing.

What kind of things were you doing at the console during that initial meeting?

First I was getting just used to the console itself. I’m used to recording and producing out of my home studio which is a lot way from Lotus Pod. But it was amazing sitting there in that chair in front of that board. They had me do some recording, I worked on a beat with DJ Clay for Shaggy’s solo album, which was the shit. The whole meeting was mostly just me soaking it all in and absorbing as much information as I possibly could. I realized this is a once-in-a lifetime possibility and realizing, sitting there, that my whole fucking life is about to change. And it’s just fucking great and an honor.

So it’s basically your first week on the job. What are you working on now?

Well, I’m working closely with Kuma, who is training me and showing some secrets and shortcuts to working in the Lotus Pod and also at the Cabin In the Woods studio. Right now, it’s just training and preparation to ensure I’m confident and comfortable enough with the consoles and everything so I can hit the ground running when it’s time to really record and make beats. My first big assignment will be working with Psychopathic’s newly signed artist but I don’t want to elaborate on that.

In closing, any message for the Juggalos?

Get ready for some freshness in 2017, fam! I’m ready to ride hard for the Hatchet and rep Psychopathic in the best light possible. We are going to be releasing a fucking avalanche of flavor in 2017 and it’s a fucking honor to be able to be a part of it.
