So last night was the 2nd of only 5 nights that Violent J is scheduled to be off of the Tempest Tour recovering from a throat infection. As you drove into the venue, there were flyers being handed out saying that J would not be there, and refunds would be honored if you wanted to be an asshole and sit at home while one of the greatest Psychopathic shows I've seen was being performed. Let me tell you something...I don't think ANYONE left. I could be wrong, but that may have the most packed I have EVER seen a venue in Dallas for ICP! This was a bigger venue than they usually play at too.
So to open up, X-Clan hit the stage. I've gotta say...I've never seen them live, but those guys were the shit! Juggalos were feelin' them too! They had an old school feel to 'em, but that's because they ARE old school. Regardless, their half-hour set was one of the best I'd seen for an opener at a Psychopathic show. Good call on them!
Boondox hit the stage next. The crowd was definitely feelin' him. Since he was kind of there with short notice, he didn't have a stage set at all. It was just him rappin' in front of black curtains. But he pulled it off without a hitch.
Since J wasn't there, they made Twiztid the headliners. Either way is fine with me. Anyway, Blaze and The R.O.C. didn't miss a beat. They even threw a few Blaze tracks in the mix of the ICP set! The stage was setup like a padded room in an insane asylum. There were about half a dozen bodies hanging from the ceiling by chains, and all performers had blood-soaked scrubs on. I know that every time I go to a show, I'm always asked for a set list. So here, to the best of my knowledge, are the songs they played (in no particular order):
Shaggy, Blaze, ROC Set List
Next, Twiztid hit the stage, complete in bloody scrubs. You have to remember: unless you count the Black Rain Tour , this is the first time in over 5 years that ICP and Twiztid have toured together. Hell, you may never get the opportunity to see this again! Anyway, Twiztid and ICP shared the same set, so the intermission was only about 10-15 minutes. Anyone who has ever been to a Psychopathic show knows that that's a rarity. This was mostly an old-school set with tracks from Mostasteless , Freekshow , and a few sprinkled in from Green Book and Man's Myth . The song selection will make any OG Juggalo happy. We were standing next to these 2 12 year old kids who came with their dad (or grandfather), who was dressed in a hawaiian shirt. They didn't know the words, but they were still knoddin' their head's. As best as I can remember, here's the set list for Twiztid:
They ended their official set with my all-time favorite Twiztid track: "Renditions of Reality" . So with that, you know that I'm a happy Juggalo. But that doesn't mean the show was over. After finishing that track up, they invited Blaze , Shaggy , R.O.C. , Corporal Robinson , and a bunch of other people back out onto the stage for one final track: "JUGGALO FAMILY" ! You normally don't get to see that show live unless you're at the Gathering! So to cap off, was it worth the 30-40 bucks you're going to pay to get in...even without J? FUCK YES. Scrounge up your money, and make sure you're at the Tempest Tour when it rolls through your town!
